Chances are you’ve heard by now that Coloring is now a trend amongst adults. Trend might even be a subtle way of putting it…because it’s more of a big craze.
If you haven’t heard about coloring for adults, here’s your moment to be like “HUH?!? WHAT???!”
Have you had your moment? Ok great, let’s move on :)
So…Why Is Coloring A New Craze?
Coloring has been shown to be a great stress reliever for the general population and extra beneficial for some who may be affected by other conditions such as PTSD. Scientifically, coloring is therapeutic because of the way our brains function while we’re coloring. In essence, if you’re busy focusing on coloring, you can’t really focus on other problems or issues. You can read more about it in this article.
Isn’t that kinda cool? You can have fun coloring while taking advantage of therapeutic benefits! If meditation isn’t your thing, give coloring a try!
What do I need to get started?
You really don’t need much of anything! Just some art supplies and something to color!
Art Supplies:
You can use anything from markers to crayons. You could even paint if you’d like! But, I’ve been a fan of using colored pencils. I started off with a pack of Crayola Colored Pencils from the grocery store but quickly graduated to this Prismacolor set.
I’d definitely recommend the Prismacolor pencils since their consistency is less waxy than Crayola’s and because they have some really pretty colors included in the 24 pencil pack.
Coloring Books:
Here’s what I have and LOVE! However, you can always pick up kids coloring books too if that’s up your alley. Adult coloring books typically have more intricate designs to color and better paper quality.
Coloring Sheets:
There are so many free coloring sheets available online, geared towards adults. Here are a few resources to get you started!
Coloring Printables (via Brit + Co.)
Under The Sea Coloring Pages (via Easy Peasy and Fun)
Printable Coloring Pages (via Everything Etsy)
Colouring For Grownups (via Red Ted Art)
So…that’s it?
Yeah, that’s it! Grab a glass of wine (or your favorite drink) and sit down to color for stress relief! Show your friends your finished artwork and get them involved, too! Host a coloring night with your friends or simply color on your own and have some “me time.” Hang up your favorite pieces of artwork on your walls and admire your artistic ability!

Our library actually has free drop in times for anyone to sit down for one hour and color in the adult coloring books! I haven’t gone yet but soon.

That sounds awesome! I wonder if my local library has something like that, too!
