Hello, everyone! Welcome to the new year!
How were your holidays? How’s your start to the new year?
After a busy holiday season spent with family and friends, I am slowly getting back into the groove of things. Instead of going full speed at resolutions and new healthy habits, I’ve been transitioning into these things and been trying to be more forgiving with myself for not accomplishing everything immediately. I’m not a huge believer in new year’s resolutions as it is, and I find it easier when you’re not trying to improve yourself at the same time everyone else is. It becomes a bit of a rat race, which can be detrimental.
Land’s End Hike in The City
For those who don’t know, Land’s End is a park on the west side of San Francisco with stunning views of the coast and the Golden Gate Bridge. On a lovely San Francisco day, we explored along the coastal trail, taking in the views at Sutro Baths, hiking through foliage, and jumping across rocks on hidden beaches. Though it is a little crowded since the views are amazing, the views (dirt and sweat, too) are totally worth it. It feels like a lot of walking, especially if you veer off path and check out the sights, but it’s really about a 30-40 minute walk from one end to the other. It’s a great place to get a little exercise and take in the view. It’s great for visitors, and never really gets old to locals.
New Year’s In The Desert
This year, we rang in the New Year in a historic ranch on the desert. Living in NorCal, it’s not often we can take in the views of the golden desert and joshua trees. It’s beautiful in its own way, though I can see it getting old for those used to the terrain. It was a nice little getaway from the Bay Area.
For those who bullet journal or are into hand lettering, you’re aware of how much hype there is around Tombow Dual Brush Pens. I’ve had them sitting in my Amazon cart for months, and I finally just decided to purchase them. Let me tell you, they’re so worth it. The writing is smooth, and the pens really don’t bleed through on paper. They’re great for bullet journaling and really forgiving when it comes to hand lettering, too.
For Christmas, I received the book Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett & Dave Evans. The book came to me highly recommended. Bill Burnett and Dave Evans designed this course and taught it at Stanford University. Undergrads would fight to take this course, creating long waitlists for the course. Since the course had so much hype, the authors wrote a book with the Designing Your Life concepts and teach workshops to those of us who don’t attend Stanford (which is most of us). Each chapter simply breaks down concepts, gives example anecdotes, and provides activities and quizzes to really help us figure out what’s best for us. I’ve been reading the book slowly but the book has been good so far! It’s a good read to check out if for any reason you’re feeling dissatisfied with your life, or if you want to see what you can do to design a better life for yourself.
