We have been having a summer weather/winter weather pattern in the Bay Area, which is a little unusual for late spring. It’s beautiful weather to enjoy, but it’s throwing my beauty routine off a little. Some days I need to use beauty products more suited to our rainy, wintry, windy days and others I need beauty products for bright, sunny, humid, and gently breezy days. I know this transition won’t last too long, as the unofficial first day of summer is in about two weeks (Hello, Memorial Day!), but in the meantime, I wanted to share with you all some of my favorite summer beauty essentials.
I don’t know about you, but my beauty routine changes quite a bit during this time of year as I tend to sweat a lot more and my oily skin tends to get well, err, more oily. I wanted to share few beauty products that are essential for summertime (regardless of your skin type, activity level, or anything like that).
Harry’s – I recently tried out a shave set from Harry’s and found that I could shave my legs a LOT faster with a Harry’s razor than with other razors. These razors have a little more surface area and are angled in a way that makes shaving legs easier and faster. I know what you’re thinking–Harry’s is a product for men…except, is there really a big difference between men’s and women’s razors other than the colors they come in and the price? Once you get their starter kit, their replacement blades are $2 or less, depending on how many you purchase at one time. I shave my legs A LOT in the summer, so having a razor that doesn’t irritate my skin + makes shaving feel like less of a chore is FABULOUS.
You can try out the razors for yourself if you want–readers get a shave club free trial where the Truman razor and razor blade, travel sized foaming shave gel, and travel blade cover are FREE. You just have to cover the cost of shipping, which is $3.
Glossier Invisible Shield – Glossier products have a cult following with certain products selling out time and time again. After trying their Invisible Shield sunscreen, I can see why. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sunscreen work better on my skin. You couldn’t tell I was wearing sunscreen, and it did NOT make my skin look greasy. My makeup sat just fine right on top of the sunscreen. I’ve always hated wearing sunscreen because it either irritates my sensitive skin or is too greasy, but with Invisible Shield, I can see myself wearing sunscreen daily.
Micellar Water/Make-up Wipes – This stuff is a godsend in the summer. Not only is it a soothing way to remove makeup, but it doesn’t irritate the skin. I’ve had some issues in the past with using brands like Neutrogena and Garnier to remove my makeup, so I go for the simplest micellar water makeup removers and wipes. For micellar water, which is good for removing eye makeup when soaked in a cotton pad and applied to the eye (in my opinion), I love using Caudalie. For micellar wipes, I actually get them from Trader Joe’s, where they’re sold at a good price ($3.99 for 20 sheets). The fewer the chemicals, the better.
Waterproof Mascara – Now, you may not be able to remove waterproof mascara too well with micellar water makeup removers, but for women who can’t seem to have their eye makeup stay on throughout the day, waterproof mascara is a must in the summer. My choices include Lancome Hypnose and Dior DIORSHOW Waterproof mascara. I love that they make your lashes look thick and long. With a good mascara like this, it’s easy to forgo traditional eye liner for a more simple, natural look.
Pinch Provisions Summer Kit – When you’re having fun all summer long and something goes wrong–maybe your flip flip breaks–you can either let it ruin your day or you could be prepared with this Pinch Provisions Summer Kit. Deodorant, tampons, dry shampoo, blotting tissues, aloe…they really thought of it all! Grab one for yourself and leave it in your purse, your car, your gym bag, or in the office.
Babyfoot – This stuff is nothing short of amazing for removing the dead skin from your feet. While it takes a couple of weeks to see the true effect of Babyfoot, I highly recommend it for those with dry feet where it seems impossible that lotion or oil can hydrate them. Four to five days after applying, dead, dry skin will peel off in chunks. You’ll be fascinated and intrigued and grossed out all at the same time.
Foot Cream – Super important during sandal season! Nothing dries out your feet like wearing sandals and flip flops all the time. Having a good foot cream is important if you’re going to be showing off your feet. My favorite is L’Occitane Foot Cream. It’s formula is a lot thinner than the hand cream, so it actually penetrates really dry skin.
Boscia Oil Blotting Linens – Now, I use this stuff year-round because my face is an oil slick BUT you should always have these on hand. Even if you have dry skin, these blotting sheets can absorb sweat without really removing your makeup. Normal skin friends can use them when they’re sweaty, too. And oily skin friends…you probably double up on these, don’t you? I know I do.
Those are my summer beauty essentials! What are yours? Share your favorites in the comments!
